Skyrim, Dragon Age, Dark Souls, Monster Hunter... What was the role of dragons in the first video games? What’s the relationship between literary dragons and those dreamt up with consoles in mind? What are the digital roots of these creatures, and why have they played the role of both bitter enemy and loyal ally? The protagonists of several leading video games, from the beginnings of the medium to the present day, dragons have evolved from the most simple graphics to meticulously detailed 3D models, from 8 bits to 4K. Led by Aragon’s Borja Lacasta, well known for his love of scaly pixels, the 42 Festival is offering, as one of the activities linked to the “Hic sunt dracones” exhibition, this talk that will soar to new heights as it shares some of the best existing examples of narrative roles, skills and designs. Interactive features will include a live survey about dragons and a discussion forum for any participants interested in testing their knowledge.
