Violeta Kovacsics (Vilanova i la Geltrú, 1981) is a film critic, professor of the History of Cinema at ESCAC (Cinema and Audiovisual School of Catalonia) and editor-in-chief and programmer of the Sitges – International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia. She has a PhD from the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), for which her thesis focused on the staging of the word in contemporary North American cinema. She is an associate professor at the UIC (International University of Catalonia), UOC (Open University of Catalonia) and at UPF. She is a film critic for magazines such as Caimán Cuadernos de Cine (previously Cahiers du Cinéma - España). She has collaborated on numerous books about cinema, such as Kolik Film, CinemaScope and Austrian Film Museum, and edited the anthology Very Funny Things. Currently, she is collaborating with the Mannheim-Heidelberg International Filmfestival. She was the first female president of the Catalan Association of Film Critics and Writers, the leading association in this field in Spain.
