Educating through a local market

The right to territory the San Roque Market
4 July, 2017 - 18:30

The local market of San Roque is one of the most important points of agricultural produce distribution in the city of Quito. Nestled in the historic centre of the city, it has been under the watchful eye of concerned city planners, conservationists of the city’s colonial heritage and tourism entrepreneurs. The San Roque Market also represents a point of conflict for the right to urban territory of the working classes, a recreation of the indigenous in the city and a battle for their own education.

This talk aims to reconstruct the team’s experience, which was made up of community and museum educators, and artists, at the San Roque Market as they worked on the creation of possible spaces for collaboration.

Guest speaker:
ALEJANDRO CEVALLOS, coordinator of Community Mediation and the Quito Museums Foundation (2011-2016). Currently he is a collaborator on the Gescultura platform and also a member of the Another Roadmap for Art Education network.
