Road closures and diversions due to groundwater network extension works
In April a new phase of the groundwater network extension works gets under way around Montjuïc. Over the coming weeks, there will be road and pavement closures in various locations around the mountain, in Poble Sec and La Marina.

The works to connect the new Can Batlló water tank with the tank in Montjuïc between the Olympic Ring and the Pau Negre municipal sports centre began last summer. These works neared completion this week with the definitive covering of the trenches that had been opened up in the area around Carrer del Foc (gardens of Can Farrero and Port Romà) and Can Batlló (c. Parcerisa and av. Carrilet). Up until 2 April, work will be carried out on the mountain-side pavement of Avinguda de Miramar, by the entrance to the Viver dels Tres Pins plant nursery, and on the pavement of the even-number side of Passeig de l’Exposició, by the Escola Poble-sec.
The works will now continue with the laying of groundwater pipes on new stretches of the route. From 31 March to 30 April, work will be carried out on the stretch of the network running down Passeig de la Zona Franca, between Carrer del Cisell and Carrer del Foc. The works will occupy part of the cycle lane, the service bay and part of the bus lane, with the uphill cycle lane on the Besòs side of the road remaining open to cyclists, and between the works and the median strip, a lane will be open for traffic heading in the direction of Plaça Cerdà. The V5 bus service will turn onto Passeig de la Zona Franca from Carrer del Cisell, and so during the works will run as far as Carrer dels Motors. On 1 and 2 April, the trench will cross Carrer del Cisell, which will be closed in the Besòs-bound direction. On Monday 14 April, the trench will cross Carrer de Sant Eloi, which will be closed in the Besòs-bound direction.
Another new branch of the groundwater network will run along Passeig de Santa Madrona. Here the works will occupy the pavement and the downhill lane of the road in 100-metre stretches, and a 2-way shuttle working arrangement will be in place, with the alternating passage of vehicles in each direction regulated by traffic lights. This is the schedule for the works by section:
• From 31 January to 17 April, from the pedestrian crossing on Palauet Albéniz to 100 metres further up.
• From 22 April to 9 May, from the end of the previous stretch to stop 2311 of the 55 bus service, which will be moved further along.
• From 12 to 30 May, up to the pedestrian crossing by the entrance to the Museu Etnològic i de Cultures del Món.
• From 2 to 20 June, up to the Font de Satanàs and entrance to the Umbracle Garden. Stops 2458 and 2459 of the 55 bus service will be temporarily moved a few meters further up the road.
A 600 m3 water tank is being constructed in the Joan Brossa Gardens. These works will not affect traffic but the works to connect this tank to Poble-sec will cause some disruption to traffic on Carretera de Montjuïc and Avinguda de Miramar. Until 31 July, the works will occupy the service bay and part of the traffic lane on Carretera de Montjuïc, and between 15 April and 15 May, a trench will be opened up on the pavement of Avinguda de Miramar as far as Plaça de Carlos Ibáñez. On this stretch of the route, a temporary walkway for pedestrians will be set up through the parking and service bay, which will be out of use.
The project involves connecting this entire groundwater network around Montjuïc to the Sant Antoni neighbourhood, which means that from 31 March to 2 May another trench will be opened up to lay pipes under the pavement on the north-side of Avinguda del Paral·lel between Ronda de Sant Pau and Carrer del Comte Borrell.
