Jardins del Príncep de Girona

C Marina, 372*382

The gardens occupy the old central courtyard of a barracks, a pleasant space knitted into the neighbourhood with various amenities.

The Príncep de Girona Gardens are on landscaped land with different levels. All the entrances, most with ramps, lead to a gravel esplanade with children’s games, table-tennis tables, a bar with tables shaded by pine trees and an area for dogs. On one side there is a large lake, with a row of small islands that cross from one side to the other.

History

The Jardins del Príncep de Girona occupy a small part of the Girona cavalry’s old barracks, which were closed at the start of the 1980s and subsequently handed over to municipal ownership in the 1990s. The very extensive grounds were allocated for public use, such as a school and a car park, and the creation of today’s green space. The gardens were built over the central courtyard of the old military barracks. Part of the building still survives on one side and now houses several of Horta-Guinardó’s district services.
