A hundred years ago, on 14 October 1922, the first two urban bus lines were inaugurated in Barcelona, with two ring-road routes that complemented each other. The lines, run by the Compañía General de Autobuses (CGA), is considered to be the embryo of the city’s first bus network. Buses had begun circulating around the streets of Barcelona some years earlier, covering routes with nearby towns and other occasional services. In 1906, the La Catalana company, in an earlier attempt to introduce a network, tried to launch an urban bus service with various lines, but the initiative was unsuccessful. The book describes the development of the Barcelona bus network, from its origins to the present day; a story linked to the evolution of the metropolis.
