Monestir de Pedralbes. República, guerra i patrimoni

Author/s
Carme Aixalà and Jordi Ramos

The royal monastery of Santa Maria de Pedralbes was declared a national historic and artistic monument at the beginning of the Second Republic. During the Civil War the community of monks were forced to flee the monastery, which was confiscated by the Catalan Parliament and put to different uses. Amidst the chaos and mayhem of the time, the centre was a cultural reference point and an example for the study and safe-keeping of artistic and documentary heritage of the country.
