The new centre is already operating and is housed in the new building in C/ Mestres Casals i Martorell, sharing space with a future temporary residence for adults at risk of social exclusion. The project involves an investment of 5.8 million euros and includes the urban renewal of the surroundings and the creation of a small square at C/ Arc de Sant Cristòfol with C/ Fonollar.
Located in the neighbourhood of Sant Pere, Sant Caterina i la Ribera, the new centre for the elderly has started being used by the nearly three hundred users from the former centre at C/ Rec, 21-23.
The building has 1,128 square metres of floor space distributed over four floors, where the ground floor, first floor and mezzanine floor are used by the centre for the elderly and offer multi-purpose rooms, a cookery classroom, a computer room, dining rooms, a laundry room, a storeroom, allotments and communal spaces.
The second, third and fourth floors have accommodation for adults at risk of exclusion, which should start being used in a few months. The upper floors have a total of fourteen rooms, six singles and eight doubles.
