A virtual museum initiative for elderly people living alone and using the Vincles BCN service is set to be extended to users at elderly people’s homes in the city. Besides taking culture to residences for the elderly, ‘Museums visit you’ offers a series of activities which help improve the emotional state of senior citizens, for whom the Covid-19 pandemic has had a huge social and psychological impact.
The activity cycle enables elderly people to make virtual visits to different rooms at the MNAC, the exhibitions at the Fundació Miró and the collections at the Museu de Ciències Naturals.
For users of the Vincles BCN service, sessions will be conducted on 11 am on Wednesdays, up until 9 June.
For people in elderly people’s homes, the activity will start at centres in the Gràcia district at 11 am on Thursdays, up until 10 June. The plan is to extend the cycle to more elderly people’s homes in the city.
The only requisite for taking part is to have access to an electronic device and an internet connection at home.
The initiative has been started in conjunction with the Museums and Accessibility Board, made up of twenty museums and cultural facilities.
