The children’s play area in Can Batlló will be open every day as from this week. The area of nearly 1,000 square metres is located within the perimeter walls of the old Block 12, which will be closed at night.
The most unique feature of the new play area is a 9-metre tower with three tunnel slides coming out at three different levels, the highest of which has an 11-metre descent. The three slides are designed to be progressively challenging and attractive for all age groups. The first level is accessed with a canvas transfer, making it accessible for children with reduced mobility or who use a wheelchair.
Besides this central tower, the play area has trampolines, individual and collaborative seesaws and roundabouts, mounds and rolling pavements to run on, roll on and balance on, as well as swings suspended from the old structure of the block. The surface of the play area is made of rubber in multiple colours and of sand.
The play area is located inside the perimeter of the former Block 12 at the Can Batlló textile factory, which has been conserved to maintain its heritage value and leave C/ Onze de Juny with façades on both sides. The walls help delimit this open-plan and open-air space, with five access points on each side which will be closed at night. A shaded area with canvas canopies will be added at the end of June, taking advantage of the structure of pillars which have been kept from the old factory unit. The children’s play area is part of the first stage of construction work for the new Parc de Can Batlló.
