Celebrating sexual and gender diversity with L’Orgullosa

10/05/2022 - 15:01 h

LGBTI. The high points of the campaign will be the party at the LGBTI Centre on 21 May and a grand musical gala at the Olympic Ring in Montjuïc on 28 June.

As a pioneering city and a leader in the struggle of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Transexuals and Intersexuals (LGBTI), Barcelona is to offer a specific programme spanning almost a month and a half and enabling all citizens to be more in touch with the reality of these collectives. The programme gets under way with a party at the LGBTI Centre on 21 May and rounds off with a grand musical gala at the Olympic Ring in Montjuïc for International Pride Day on 28 June. Between these two dates, L’Orgullosa will make its way around the city’s neighbourhoods and various museums, making the case for sexual and gender plurality and LGBTI rights.

Party at the LGBTI Centre

During the same week as the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, on 17 May, L’Orgullosa gets under way with the party at the LGBTI Centre on Saturday, 21 May, from 11 am to 2 pm. The event offers cultural activities, artistic workshops and a book fair with publications from various LGBTI and feminist bookshops from Barcelona, in an open morning at the centre. In the afternoon, the festivities move to the pedestrian area in Ronda de Sant Antoni, with various music performances.

L’Orgullosa in neighbourhoods and museums

As a way of broadening the scope of the commemorations, L’Orgullosa includes a decentralised and cross-cutting programme which has been created in collaboration with organisations and other bodies in each district that work in defence of LGBTI rights.

Different city museums such as the MACBA, the MNAC, the Picasso Museum and the Maritime Museum are offering activities to reflect on LGBTI topics through different perspectives on their collections, guided tours and other specific activities. In addition, a day of round tables is planned at the Barcelona LGBTI Centre on 30 June, to rethink museum institutions from a queer perspective.

Grand gala for Pride Day

L’Orgullosa winds up on 28 June with a grand musical gala aimed at all citizens at the Olympic Ring in Montjuïc. The gala will feature a carefully selected programme of local acts, to be announced soon.

Explosion of colour and symbolism

The poster for L’Orgullosa is the work of the illustrator Javier Navarro, better known as “El dios de los tres”, with typography from Javier Alcaraz. The poster features a design full or LGBTI motifs and references to Barcelona, such as the Gat del Raval, one of the city’s freshest and most effervescent axes for the queer movement.

Citizens can get a copy of the poster from the Sala Ciutat, at Carrer de la Ciutat, 2, or download it in digital format.
