Guided tour at the Monastery of Pedralbes

Every Saturday, the Reial Monestir de Santa Maria de Pedralbes organises a guided tour around various part of the site.
The tour is conducted by somebody with Asperger’s syndrome. The goal of the project is to normalise the coal and labour situation of the collective through the potentially transformational means of culture, and at the same time their personal autonomy, breaking down stigmas and prejudices in connection with people with this condition.
The Monastery of Pedralbes was founded by Elisenda de Montcada in 1327, with the support of her husband, King Jaume II.
The building is one of the finest examples of Catalan Gothic architecture, with its church, cloister and three floors offering one of the most spacious and harmonious examples of this style. One of the most interesting features of the church is the Sepulchre of Queen Elisenda, which has two sides; one giving onto the church and showing her dressed as a sovereign, and the other giving onto the cloister and showing here as a widow and penitent. Equally interesting are the 14th century stained glass windows, various sepulchres of noble families and the three choirs stalls: the upper choir, the lower choir and the friar’s choir.

Descobreix els detalls de la vida del monestir amb un recorregut per les estances principals del recinte. La visita és conduïda per una persona amb la síndrome d´Asperger, un trastorn de l´espectre autista que es caracteritza principalment per la dificultat en les relacions socials, per patrons de comportament restrictius i repetitius, i per la intolerància als canvis i imprevistos, sense que existeixi associada una afectació significativa de la capacitat intel·lectual.
Guia´m, és un projecte d´inserció laboral nascut al Monestir de Sant Cugat en col·laboració amb la Fundació Friends, perquè persones amb síndrome d´Asperger puguin fer de guies en entitats culturals. L´objectiu del projecte és normalitzar la situació social i laboral del col·lectiu per mitjà del potencial transformador de la cultura i, alhora, fomentar la seva autonomia personal i trencar estigmes i prejudicis en relació a les persones amb aquest trastorn.
