Last October saw the launch of the second pilot edition of 'Fora de reserves' (2023-2024), which is being developed throughout the school year, in an expanded version in terms of the number of schools and artists taking part.

Four public schools, both primary and secondary, are taking part this year. The Anna Gironella de Mundet Secondary School (Horta-Guinardó) and the Ramon Casas School (Sants-Montjuïc) are participating for the second consecutive year in this programme, hosting the works High Five Zara composition01.ai (the Poignant), by Rubén Grilo, and Arquetips esquelètics, by Mònica Planes, respectively.

In addition, two educational centres, the Escola Josep Maria de Sagarra (Gràcia) and the Institut Escola Tres Fonts de les Corts (Les Corts), where Jaume Pitarch and Isabel Banal have installed their works Sabó d’Alep, and Al cistell.

The curatorial discourse of this edition continues to be the idea of the body, and the way in which it is imbricated in a strong capitalist and neo-capitalist culture. The selected works are at the centre of a work process that is fostering new learning situations and promoting a natural coexistence with contemporary creation and heritage.

The works have now been installed in all the educational centres and the pupils and teachers are beginning to define the public programme for each school, based on the proposals of the promoting groups and with the participation of the artists.

‘Fora de reserves’ is a programme for the temporary reception of works from the city’s contemporary art collection in schools. This initiative is deployed over the course of a whole academic year, and involves the installation and exhibition of the works in schools and colleges, recognising the educational centres as exhibition spaces and an extension of the museum-institution itself. In cooperation with the artists, a public programme and a programme of activities is built up for the duration of the works’ stay at the educational centres.

This programme, which links culture and education, is organised by the Institut de Cultura de Barcelona, the Consorci d’Educació de Barcelona and the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA).
