“Open streets” is back this weekend
It’s time to take a stroll in the middle of the street again on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 September. Gran de Gràcia and the streets of Sants - Creu Coberta turn into spaces again where pedestrians take centre stage instead of cars. “Open streets” is back!
Following the usual break for July and August, ”Open streets” is back at the weekends to transform the usual streets into ideal places to stroll along the middle of the road with no exhaust fumes, or along the side of the street as we relax and enjoy local commerce. This is also a chance to sit on a bench and read a book outdoors with no traffic noise, or to improvise a game with children in the middle of the street.
“Open streets” from 10 am to 9 pm
Summer hours will apply in September, from 10 am to 9 pm. As from the first weekend in October (5 and 6), the start and end times will be brought forward by an hour. The street sections open to the public are:
- C/ Creu Coberta – C/ Sants (between Pl.Espanya and C/ Munné).
- C/ Gran de Gràcia (between C/ Nil Fabra and Pla de Nicolás Salmerón).
Coexistence with bikes and scooters
It’s important to remember that even though cars are unable to access these streets, vehicles belonging to local residents can use the streets to access or exit their garages or parking spaces, always from the nearest intersecting street and following the instructions of the staff controlling traffic and the City Police. Other vehicles can also access the streets, such as taxis picking up or accompanying people with mobility problems, vehicles operated by emergency services etc. Check the details here.
Bicycles and scooters may also circulate in these streets.però els usuaris han de respectar sempre la preferència de les persones que es desplacen a peu: han d’anar com a màxim a 10 km/h i, en cas que hi hagi aglomeracions de persones, és obligatori baixar del vehicle i anar a peu. Check the information poster.
