First Barcelona Manifesta 15 expectation workshops
Every edition of Manifesta, the European Nomadic Biennial, will feature expectation workshops. The first preparatory sessions for Manifesta 15 were held with a number of stakeholders from the Barcelona Metropolitan Area’s artistic and social sector on 13 and 14 June 2022.
The workshops’ approach is open and participatory, to ensure the expectations of the community’s various stakeholders are taken into account regarding the content of the fifteenth edition of the European Nomadic Biennial being held in Barcelona and 10 metropolitan area cities in 2024.
The aim behind the expectation workshops is to engage and collaborate with each city’s artistic, cultural and civic communities during the preparation process for the following edition of the biennial.
This first gathering was headed by the cultural manager Hedwig Fijen, the director of the International Manifesta Foundation and chair of the Barcelona Manifesta 15 Foundation’s Board of Trustees, the body responsible for managing this great artistic project in the city.
According to Fijen: “the workshops started off with great criticism and interest, as everyone began to ask themselves the same questions. Participants were asked about the relevance of their work and how their cultural projects could influence the city itself in the medium and long term”.
Also taking part were Dani Granados, the Council for Cultural Rights at Barcelona City Council, and Eva Sòria, the director of Innovation, Knowledge and Visual Arts at the City Council.
