Anima is a sculptural installation developed to explore the relationship between an object that seems to have a consciousness of its own and its surroundings. This entity responds to the presence of visitors with a series of audiovisual expressions that create the illusion that it possesses an autonomous sensory identity. It is a simulation of conscious interaction that challenges us to position ourselves before a possible relationship with an artificial intelligence. What would we do with an object that seems to have emotions, the autonomy of an organism, and even a soul (ànima)? Nick Verstand's project offers a possible answer in the form of a luminous sculpture (using movement, texture and sound) that will be suspended from the ceiling, as if it were floating in the air in the middle of a dark room. It is a structure that attracts attention as a unique source of light, and a digital surface that reproduces the viscosity of a metallic fluid: a presence that generates an immersive and interactive experience of light and sound.

Nick Verstand (1984) is a contemporary Dutch artist who explores human perception through spatial audiovisual compositions. His installations and live performances investigate the frontier between the material and the immaterial by means of collaborative design processes aimed at breaking down social boundaries. They are intuitive experiences co-created between artist and audience that create a mesmerising environment which activates the subconscious mind. Nick has exhibited and performed in various places: The Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, The Shed in New York, Eindhoven’s STRP Festival, Design Society in Shenzen, Paris Fashion Week, SXSW Conference & Festivals in Austin, the Dekmantel Festival in Amsterdam, Art Central in Hong Kong, the Lowlands Festival (Netherlands), Iceland Airwaves and Dutch Design Week, among other events. He has also collaborated with fashion designer Iris van Herpen, Icelandic singer and songwriter Björk and Swedish singer and songwriter Lykke Li.
