Grammy-nominated musician, singer, producer and drummer Kassa Overall is coming to BAM to showcase his cutting-edge experimentation with hip-hop production techniques that take jazz and rap in new directions.

In Animals, his latest album, Kassa draws inspiration from his mentors Elvin Jones and Billy Hart, with collaborations with jazz and rap artists like Danny Brown, Wiki, Lil B and Shabazz Palaces.

Animals also reflects the paradoxes of Kassa's own life as an artist and a black American man; he shares with the audience the cost of expressing himself freely in public, and acknowledges that this freedom can often feel like a life inside a cage.
