Maracumbé offer a music that results from a coexistence between musicians of multiple origins, with Barcelona as their meeting point. Their repertoire, created entirely by the band, is strongly inspired by various roots music from around the world, which the group have gradually become familiar with during their research and the exchange of knowledge between their members. In a way, their music is a reflection of the new Barcelona reality: complex, diverse, colourful and only understood through the exchange between Catalan culture and newly arrived cultures.

Most of the musicians have played together in the percussion group Batubaroa for a decade. Maracumbé responds to the need of this grand family to evolve in terms of creation and performance. In honour of its origins, the music of Maracumbé ascribes rhythm a prominent role. The format combines a wide variety of percussion, strings and wind instruments from various parts of the world to create an original, colourful, complex and danceable music.
