Thirty years of music and twenty-five minutes of passion
The closing of this year's Mercè is dedicated to Sónar, the electronic music festival that has celebrated its thirtieth edition.
Rosalia, Bad Gyal, Daft Punk, Pet Shop Boys, Björk, Aphex Twin, Miss Kittin, Jeff Mills. All these names have to do with the history of electronic sounds over the last thirty years. And they have all been through the Sónar, which this year uses the music of these artists and many more in the soundtrack of the Pyromusical de la Mercè. They are waiting for you on Monday, the 25th of September on Avenida de Maria Cristina.
Sónar began in Barcelona in 1994, when the city had definitively embraced electronic sounds and the culture of the club was already spreading everywhere. That festival, which was originally held in Ciutat Vella and Mar Bella, soon began to attract not only many Barcelonans who were unconditional of the newest sounds but also many visitors from other places who became the Sónar and Barcelona as references in the electronic scene and European festivals.
This festival is so linked to the city that it could not be absent from the celebrations of the Fiesta Mayor the year that it commemorates such a special anniversary. You will have it putting music to a particularly emotional moment of the Mercè, the great Piromusical is one of the shows most followed by citizens. It will be a passionate and musical journey through the world of recent years based on experimental sounds, voices and rhythms from the five continents, an intercultural journey to the rhythm of the most classical and most modern sounds in the electronic scene.
During the Pyromusical, which will be broadcast by TV3 and from the Sónar website and lasts approximately twenty-five minutes, you will listen to Catalan talents like Bad Gyal, Desert or Maria Arnal, but also monsters of electronic dance music from different eras: from Daft Punk and The Chemical Brothers, until Omar Souleyman or Aphex Twin.
Disco, house or techno music are genres that cannot be left out of this Pyromusical dedicated to Sónar. These genres are going to be performed by Todd Terje, Laurent Garnier, Miss Kittin or Jeff Mills. And yes, since the unforgettable Ryuichi Sakamoto (his performance at Sónar 2011 with Alva Noto is still remembered) died last March, The soundtrack of the Pyromusical will pay tribute to him.
The music of this year’s Pyromusical is signed by Sónar in collaboration with Phran, a producer and regular DJ at the festival. They work in collaboration with Pirotècnica Igual, a Catalan company that has been producing and exploding its fire castles for more than one hundred years in a festival of light and colour. They will be in charge of illuminating the night sky of Barcelona with a spectacular and innovative proposal.
If you don’t want to miss the farewell full of passion of the Fiesta Mayor with which Sónar commemorates thirty years of good music, come on Monday, the 25h of September on Avenida de Maria Cristina, but first consult the information about it on the website de la Mercè.
