Freshening up the Sant Antoni Superblock
In addition to the repair of 500 elements of urban furniture, children’s play areas and road markings are now being repainted. The work comes in response to the intensive public use of the 24,000 square metres of space regained for local people in 2017. Street-calming measures here have meant an average reduction in traffic of 17%.The work has updated benches, seats, traffic lights, streetlights, water springs, garden tubs, tables, marble seats, stands and wooden decking. The work should conclude in the coming weeks with the renewal of elements painted on the ground.
Sant Antoni: example of green streets in L’Eixample
The transformation of the surroundings at the Mercat de Sant Antoni was the inspiration for the other green streets in the Barcelona Superblock.
Once the revamp is validated through the public use of this space, the next step will be the remodelling projects for C/ Comte Borrell and the remodelling of the streets of Parlament and Rocafort.
