The Canta Gran fills L’Auditori to combat loneliness
The traditional pre-Christmas concert of elderly people in Barcelona brings together 500 singers to perform *La baguet i la rosa*.Canta Gran is an emotionally powerful show that forms part of the strategy to combat loneliness among the elderly. Over its 24 years, it has not only made a significant impact but has also become a key event in the city’s Christmas calendar.
This year the show is inspired by French songs and the musical La baguet i la rosa. All the songs will be sung in Catalan, with translations adapted to the music of Espinàs, Pujadó, Vinyals and others. The repertoire includes some of the best known French songs of the 60s and 70s, such as ‘La Vie en rose’, ‘Non, je ne regrette rien’, classics like ‘La Bohème’, ‘Sous le ciel de Paris’ and incursions into pop culture with ‘Poupée de cire, poupée de son’ and ‘Les Champs-Elysées’. An ensemble of winds, strings, percussion and a harpsichord accompanied the choir of over 500 singers.
