No fires in the woods until 15 October!
Lighting any sort of fire is prohibited in all woodland areas, regardless of the purpose or the density or scarcity of trees, nor within 500 metres. With the arrival of spring, and the absence of any heavy rainfall, conditions which are conducive to fires increase. This is particularly so this year, when drought indexes are much higher than previous years.
Because of this, the following prohibitions apply in woodland areas between 15 March and 15 October, and also within the 500 metres surrounding them:
- Lighting fires. It is prohibited to burn dead vegetation, hedges, farming waste or gardening trimmings. This also applies to recreational fires (except where gas hobs or brick barbecues with spark protectors are used in picnic or camping areas or on private plots in housing areas).
- Discarding cigarette butts or any other lit objects.
- Launching rockets, balloons, fireworks and any other artefacts with fire.
- Dumping rubbish or discarded materials, organic or industrial, which may cause a fire.
