The engines will cover callouts to tackle large fires in the city or the port area, as well as giving coverage for operations with dangerous goods, the goal being to offer an initial swift response in the case of accidents where there is a chemical risk. The vehicles will operate from the Montjuïc and Zone France fire stations, replacing three fire engines that between them had spent an average of 15 years in service.

The current agreement, signed in 2022 and valid for four years with the possibility of an extension, includes an investment of 2.4 million euros for the whole period.

The Barcelona Fire Service made a total of 869 callouts in the port area in 2024, mainly guaranteeing safety in loading and unloading operations of high-risk goods at the various stowage terminals. The corps also conducted 25 drills in collaboration with the companies at the port, plus a general drill.

Participating in the presentation of the new vehicles were the Deputy Mayor for Security, Prevention and Coexistence with Barcelona City Council, Albert Batlle; the head of the Barcelona Fire Service, Sebastià Massagué, the chair of Port de Barcelona, José Alberto Carbonell, and others.
