New cutting-edge facilities on the coast to strengthen the blue economy

Three new facilities will drive Barcelona’s leading role in the blue economy, standing as part of the legacy left by the America’s Cup and playing a key role in the city’s maritime progress. The facilities will come into operation between 2027 and 2028 and become reference points in research, training, innovation and enterprise linked to the sea. With an overall investment of 142 million euros, the projects are set to become a reality thanks to collaboration with various institutions.

Ajuntament de Barcelona

The new facilities come in addition to the boost represented by the Pavelló Blau, a strategy that conceives the city’s 5-kilometre coast as a big area for sport, including the sea. From Port Vell to the Port del Fòrum, this initiative brings together over 40 categories of sport.

Parc de Tecnologia Marítima de Barcelona

A centre for maritime and nautical engineering, located at the new entrance to Port de Barcelona. With unique installations, including specialist simulators and tech labs, this facility will be inaugurated in 2028. It will be rolled out in collaboration with the UPC, Port de Barcelona and the Government of Catalonia and managed by Fundació Barcelona Capital Nàutica

Blue Tech Port

A driver for maritime tech companies, with an acceleration programme for start-ups and the presence of international bodies. Located at the Sant Bertran wharf, the final stage of work will be completed in 2028. The Blue Tech Port is promoted by Port de Barcelona and will be managed by the World Trade Center.

Barcelona Mar de Ciència

A space open to the public to get to know the ocean. Located at the Port Olímpic, this facility will be inaugurated in 2027 and promote public participation in marine science, also driving sustainability and environmental awareness. The facility will be managed by the Institut de Ciències del Mar – CSIC and offer an agora, exhibitions, audiovisuals, immersive experiences, workshops, debates, training and more.
