Further testing for the T-mobilitat as it opens up to the general public
As from today anybody can get a T-mobilitat online and travel with special conditions for a few days. Remember that this stage in the testing process is being conducted exclusively in the 36 municipalities in the metropolitan pricing system.T-mobilitat, the new digital ticket system for the public transport network in the Barcelona area, is to undergo broader testing on initial usability over the coming days. Testing started at the end of June with the verification of ticket validation for both the rechargeable card and mobile phones.
The group taking part in the first stage were able to test other functions during the summer and many of these people now have the definitive card.
As from today, 4 October, testing will be opened up to the general public and new elements introduced: the T-mobilitat website and the apps T-Mobilitat and TMB App. However, the TMB app with T-mobilitat functions will only be available to people with invitations.
All these channels are official and allow users to manage supports and T-mobilitat transport tickets.
As with the last few weeks, this stage in the testing process will be conducted exclusively among the 36 municipalities in the metropolitan pricing system, belonging to the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB).
Subscription and card purchase: online or in person
So far, subscribing to the system and obtaining the new rechargeable card was restricted to a group of people who had to go in person to a series of points where the service was available.
In this new stage, users can register for the T-mobilitat on the T-mobilitat website and the website for TMB/T-Mobilitat, as well as the apps and the in-person points offering the service.
Those who register can also create a digital account which will give them online management options such as being able to view invoices and carrying out procedures, as well as accessing the mobile apps where they can purchase and recharge cards and more.
Once they subscribe, users can request their card. If they request the card online via the websites they should receive it within 10 days at the most. Remember that the card will normally cost 4.5 euros, but that the price during these testing days is 2.25 euros.
Validation with mobile phones
Those with mobile phones featuring NFC technology will be able to travel with their phones, without needing a card.
The apps T-Mobilitat and TMB App offer validation to access public transport, once users download an extra feature to generate an e-folder in each app where virtual transport tickets can be stored.
The apps are free, but this feature will cost one euro (50 cents during the current testing days).
Supports and tickets with special conditions
At present, and during the current testing days, the price of supports and transport tickets which are now working with the T-mobilitat will be 50% of the usual price that will apply once the system is fully operational.
The expiry date for tickets is also different: the T-usual and the T-jove are valid for five days during the testing stage.
The card or the apps acquired or downloaded during the testing stage will continue to be valid once the service is operational.
Recharging and managing
When the initial tickets run out, people with the T-mobilitat in card or mobile formats can recharge them at ticket sales machines around the network or through the official apps.
In fact, besides allowing users to travel, one of the main functions of the app is to be able to recharge the card, as well as to check information and invoices, carry out procedures or block a card if it is lost or stolen.
New support services
This new stage brings the launch of specific channels on social media, on Twitter and Telegram, which will be disseminating information on the system and handling queries.
Channels which have been operating since testing first began will also be maintained: the physical offices for the T-mobilitat Support and Information Centre, the freephone number 900 928 900 and the in-person support points from operators, which will also be handling queries from users and will gradually be rolled out further.
Over 4,000 people are currently travelling on a daily basis with the T-mobilitat
At present, over 4,000 people have acquired the T-mobilitat and are using it for their daily travel on public transport with the T-usual and a reduced expiry date and price.
These citizens have notched up more than a hundred thousand ticket validations betwene them, with over four thousand journeys registered every day in recent weeks. Thanks to the participation of these users, the necessary adjustments have been made to open up the T-mobilitat to the general public.
