Carla Simón, Rome and the poster by David de las Heras all form part of La Mercè 2022
These are the names of the opening speaker, the guest city and the author of the poster for this year’s festival, which is on from 23 to 26 September. The presentation of these three components starts the countdown for this year’s edition of La Mercè. The poster, by the artist David de las Heras, pays homage to a tradition which over the generations has brought Barcelona’s people together to embrace culture and the avant-garde. It is actually culture which is represented this year with the film director Carla Simón as the opening speaker, while the guest city of Rome offers a link with Mediterranean tradition.Barcelona’s local festival is being held in the autumn, from 23 to 26 September, with an edition which stands out for its integrating and welcoming character.
New poster for La Mercè
The artist David de las Heras has opted to portray this as a Mercè which has embraced all generations of people in Barcelona over time, which combines tradition and artistic creation, and which remembers its roots and reiterates the city’s commitment to justice and peace. The illustration shows us unique spots in the city, the colours of the Ukrainian flag coming out of a trumpet, a skyward-bound human tower and many other details to discover, while the three main female figures dip their feet in the Mediterranean.
Free copies of the poster are available at the Sala Ciutat (Carrer de la Cutat, 2) and at the Palau de la Virreina (La Rambla, 99), while stocks last. It can also be downloaded in high resolution from the municipal poster repository.
Carla Simón as the opening speaker
The director, writer and film producer Carla Simón will be tasked with getting La Mercè under way, delivering the opening speech which begins the programme every year. Author of fiction and documentaries, Simón offers and intimate and familiar vision, while addressing universal topics from a human perspective. With Estiu 1993, and more recently, Alcarràs, Simón has consolidated her career as a film director.
Rome as the guest city
La Mercè continues with one of the most enriching traditions in its programme, this year inviting the city of Rome to take part in the festivities with artistic projects to bring the cultural scene from the Italian capital closer to us.
