16th Barcelona Municipal Immigration Council Prize awarded
The prize went to the project “Co-creators of visual wisdom: training instructors in anti-racism awareness workshops with visual arts”, by the Associació Mirada Rumiant. The prize carries a monetary award of 7,000 euros.The winning project by the Associació Mirada Rumiant trains young women of various origins in audiovisual techniques, empowering them as active operators in the struggle against hate speech. The project also aims to raise awareness of this issue among the education community with workshops using the material generated through co-creation. The Associació Intercultural Diàlegs de Dona, the Associació Cultural Social Art Culinari d’Hondures and the Amics a Catalunya all received special mentions with a monetary award of 2,000 euros.
The Barcelona Municipal Immigration Council Prize comes within the context of International Migrants Day, held on 18 December. The main theme for this edition was “Young people of diverse origins in Barcelona”. The eleven projects put forward have the goal of promoting the defence of rights and giving visibility to young people of diverse origins, promoting self-organisation and empowerment and actively contributing to awareness, prevention, reporting and fighting any form of racism, discrimination or exclusion.
