More public housing in Nou Barris
Work has started on a block of 67 protected flats which could house up to 160 people in C/ Palamós, in the neighbourhood of Trinitat Nova. This is the second development to get under way in the space of a few days in Nou Barris, where over 350 homes are to be built in 2021.The Municipal Institute for Housing and Renovation (IMHAB) will award leases for the 67 flats, with the awardees to acquire the surface rights for the properties for a period of 75 years at prices well below market rates, guaranteeing the continued public ownership of the land. The project involves a municipal investment of 9.6 million euros and work is due to be completed in the first quarter of 2023.
The building will have a ground floor and five floors of homes, with two and three-bedroom flats of 69 and 79 square metres respectively. In addition, five flats will be adapted for people with reduced mobility.
The construction project is for a cruciform building, meaning all homes get continuous contact with the exterior. The project also pays special consideration to energy saving measures, respect for the environment, increased comfort, cross-ventilation in all homes, direct sunlight in all living rooms in the winter, more insulation in the façades, optimal use of natural light etc.
More than 350 public homes in the district
Three more publicly protected housing projects are currently under way in Nou Barris. One is a development of 47 homes with services in Torre Baró, due for completion in the second half of 2022, one is a co-housing project by the cooperative Sostre Cívic in C/ Pla dels Cirerers, with 29 homes to be completed at the end of this year, and the other is the development with 31 rental homes in Torre Baró, which should be ready in the first quarter of 2023.
This year should also see the start of work on two more developments in the neighbourhood of Trinitat Nova, with 179 flats for rent or lease. In all, the stock of protected housing in Nou Barris is to get a further 353 homes, providing housing for some 880 people.
