Demolition work under way for the construction of the new healthcare centre in Fort Pienc
The construction of the new primary healthcare centre in Fort Pienc is a step closer to becoming reality. Work got under way in July to demolish the unit which stood on the corner between C/ Nàpols and Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, the site for the new healthcare centre. The work should take between four and six months and comes after the asbestos roof of the industrial unit was removed. The task of dismantling the asbestos was conducted in line with the plan approved by the work inspection department at the Government of Catalonia.
Besides the demolition work, the dog area on the same corner was also closed definitively to free up the land needed. Local people will find the nearest dog area in Parc de l’Estació del Nord, in C/ Nàpols, between Av. Vilanova and C/ Almogàvers.
All these steps were needed ahead of the construction of the new primary healthcare centre in Fort Pienc, which responds to a long-standing demand from local people.
Healthcare facility and public housing
The new centre will be housed in a building constructed by the Municipal Housing Institute (IMHAB), with the upper three floors to be used for public housing.
Specifically, the new primary healthcare centre will occupy the ground floor and the first floor of the building, offering a total floor space of 2,600 square metres.
The building is expected to include eighty homes with services. The IMHAB is due to formalise the contract for the basic and final projects for the block in September, once the tender has been awarded.
