Come and celebrate the inauguration of the Parc de les Glòries on 26 April!
We look forward to seeing you at the inaugural celebration on Saturday 26 April at the Parc de les Glòries, the city’s new green lung, with music, workshops and activities for all the family from 10.30 am to 6 pm. The opening of the central section of the park gives local people over 9,000 square metres of greenery, a large walking area and new spaces for activities. Don’t miss it!
The celebration will be organised in different parts of the park, with two stages. Under the shade of the Umbracle there’s hot chocolate for everybody and musical performances from the likes of the group Ambauka to get things under way and Todos los Gatos son Pardos as a tribute to Gato Pérez to round off the celebration. In the same location there will be a swing dance and workshop and a magic show. At the other stage, located at the Àgora Berta Càceres, there will be small-format activities such as storytelling and puppetry.
In the Clariana, which recently added giant wooden games and games for children with autism, there will be a games space between 10 am and 2 pm, while La Farinera will also be organising an ‘escape street’ here too.
An exhibition will also be created for the day at two points in the park (Pg. Diagonal, Rambla Encants), with images portraying the evolution of Glòries over the years.
Facilities, services and shops around the Parc de les Glòries will be joining in with the celebration of 26 May: the Disseny Hub Barcelona is holding an open day throughout the day, La Farinera and the Tram will be offering various activities, with other participants including the Mercat dels Encants, the Mirador de les Glòries and associations and organisations from the districts of L’Eixample and Sant Martí. The activities come in addition to the usual range of options in the park: the dynamic area, with two children’s play areas with unique elements, the immersion garden, the water mirror and the biodiversity and cool areas.
A new park to discover
The inauguration of the new section of the park which was still to be executed covers 4.3 hectares, with over 9,000 square metres of greenery. A large central path will cut across the park following the course of Av. Diagonal. New furniture will also be added around the Gran Clariana, with spaces for people to relax in, including benches and seats. In all, Plaça de les Glòries will have over a thousand trees.
The new spaces we can find in this green lung for the city are:
- Umbracle: with nearly 700 square metres for activities in the shade.
- Àgora sensorial Berta Cáceres: more than 2,500 square metres of multi-purpose space surrounded by a strip of giant bamboo.
- Jardí d’Immersió, with species adapted to climate change.
- Large children’s play area of nearly 2,000 square metres of space, 35 play elements, a sandpit and a space for relaxation and interaction.
- Parc d’aigua (open in the summer months).
- New dog recreation area of 1,200 square metres.
- New biodiversity nodes, parterres and rain gardens.
