Recognition for 250 more companies for their commitment to sustainable tourism
Recent months have seen 248 companies included in the Biosphere Barcelona standard for Commitment to Sustainable Tourism. Today they received their accreditation, along with the 416 companies renewing their status as businesses which back the respectful management of the climate crisis, the environment, culture and social and economic return in the city and the counties of Barcelona. The commitment is based on methodology and their work around the seventeen sustainable development goals in the UN’s 2030 Agenda.
To adapt to the current situation caused by the pandemic, new measures have been included in connection with health and safety. These are established in protocols recognised by the Safe Travels seal, by the World Travel & Tourism Council, which can be applied for through Turisme de Barcelona.
The seal is the first to be authorised on a global scale and to recognises companies, organisations and destinations anywhere in the world adopting hygiene and prevention measures against Covid-19, with the goal of generating safe spaces for travellers.
A commitment for all
The biosphere commitment responds to the desire to promote more careful tourism on the part of tourist operators, where visitors wish to be as respectful as possible towards the environment at their destination. The roll-out of these measures increases Barcelona’s competitiveness as a destination, consisting of the city and the twelve counties in the province.
The biosphere project is jointly promoted with Barcelona Provincial Council, in collaboration with the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce and the Barcelona Tourism Consortium. The list of participating companies is available on the website.
