New inclusive changing facility at the Sant Miquel beach
The Sant Miquel beach has a new inclusive changing facility for bathers with disabilities, fulfilling the last of the improvements put forward this year by the Municipal Institute for People with Disabilities (IMPD) and BCASA, in compliance with the agreements made with the sector. The purpose-built changing facility was constructed and installed by an external company. It means the beach offers an accessible bathing service with numerous improvements and innovative elements.
This year sees the service offer timetables and assistance on a par with the rest of the seasonal bathing services, such as the lifesaving and rescue service and the environmental information service. Improvements have also been introduced compared to last season, with better infrastructures in the bathing area, including a hydraulic seat at the accessible bathing point at the Fòrum, a new pergola to provide shade at each of the points operated by the service, a new WC at the Nova Icària beach and the new inclusive changing facility at the Sant Miquel beach.
Signage has also been improved for the accessible bathing service at all beaches, with more information on inclusive bathing points and indications giving them absolute priority. Parking facilities have also been enlarged to facilitate access for users.
Some 4,000 people took advantage of this service in 2021, making use of it on 25,000 occasions.
