Control and input in April’s Commission for Economy and Tax

April’s session by the Economy and Tax Commission debated and voted on various proposals from municipal groups relating to the increase in the tourist tax, iconic and singular establishments, cruise ship activity, occupied housing and the social and economic impact of the current Rodalies local train service in Barcelona.

Barcelona en Comú called on the municipal government to stand firm in defence of the agreement to increase the tourist tax (IEET) in Catalonia and in favour of allocating 25% of the revenue raised to public housing policies, rejecting any exceptions or exemptions. The proposal was approved with the following votes:

  • In favour: PSC, BComú
  • Abstention: Junts×BCN
  • Against: PP, Vox.

Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya called for economic activity permits for iconic and singular restaurant establishments to be adjusted to maintain their essence and guarantee their continuity and generational transition. The proposal was approved with the following votes:

  • In favour: Junts×BCN, PSC, BComú, ERC, PP, Vox.

The Partit Popular sought to make a positive assessment of the impact of cruise ship activity for the city and called for an agreement with the international association of cruise operators to improve its management: The proposal was approved with the following votes:

  • In favour: Junts×BCN, PSC, PP, Vox
  • Against: BComú, ERC.

Vox called for an economic report to be drafted reflecting the alteration in the sale value of occupied properties and in relation to the increase in people’s gross salaries in Barcelona. The proposal was rejected with the following votes:

  • In favour: PP, Vox.
  • Against: Junts×BCN, PSC, BComú, ERC

Junts per Barcelona put forward a proposal with content for an institutional declaration, calling on the government to commission an exacting independent study to quantify the social and economic impact of the Rodalies local train service in Barcelona, which the municipal group classes as deficient, with details on the aspects that the report should include. The proposal was approved with the following votes:

  • In favour: Junts×BCN, ERC, PP
  • Abstention: BComú
  • Against: PSC, Vox
