New subsidies for projects by junior researchers
New subsidy call for projects by junior researchers, the goal being to promote knowledge transfer in the city’s manufacturing sector. This year’s call has a budget of 1.9 million euros, doubling the figure from 2022. The application period opens on 24 April and will last for 35 calendar days. This is the third edition of this call, which has so far subsidised 36 projects, half of which have now been completed and 18 of which end this year.Subsidies will cover up to 80% of the cost of the project, up to a maximum of 80,000 euros per project. The measure aims to consolidate the city’s scientific fabric and foster a favourable environment for research centres, universities and the city’s entrepreneurial ecosystem to carry out quality research in the city.
The application period opens on 24 April and will last for 35 calendar days. Research projects must respond to the scientific challenges included in one of these three spheres:
- Health and welfare in the city
- Climate action
- City and society
The elegibility requisites are:
- Projects must be for a maximum duration of 2 years.
- They must be original and seek to provide scientific evidence to resolve the urban challenges facing Barcelona.
- Candidates must have successfully defended their doctoral thesis after 1 January 2017.
The process guarantees the care of immediate family members or situations where maternity or paternity leave would mean somebody missing out on the opportunity to access the call.
More subsidies to promote employment
A new edition of the programme Crea Feina Barcelona 2024 is being opened in May. This programme promotes the creation of quality and inclusive work, with subsidies for companies and organisations taking on unemployed people under the age of 30 or favouring contracts for qualified researchers with doctoral degrees.
Both calls have been coordinated through Barcelona Activa and the Department for Science and Universities, with an overall budget of four million euros.
