New programme to revert the brain drain among young talent in the last decade
Barcelona Activa and the Department for Youth have launched a programme entitled “Return with Opportunities”, aimed at facilitating the return of qualified young people who moved abroad in search of better job opportunities and labour conditions following the crisis in 2008.The programme is aimed at young people between the ages of 18 and 35 who have been living abroad for at least a year and who were born in Barcelona or its metropolitan area of who have lived, studied or worked here.
In a move to revert the brain drain of the last decade, the programme is offering labour mediation services, advice and comprehensive support during the relocation process, as well as support in developing enterprises, to give young people skills and tools to pursue their projects in Barcelona. The programme includes the participation of Volvemos.org, a project which has been working since 2016 to help workers return, help businesses find suitable profiles and public administrations to develop return plans.
At the same time, the programme aims to raise awareness among companies on the advantages of taking on professionals with international experience, tutoring young people in looking for job openings and fostering their integration into the city.
“Return with Opportunities” is one of the priority action measures set out in the Plan to Foster Quality Youth Employment.
