The Zoo’s new educational plan is working to raise biodiversity awareness
The initiative, which will be presented to teachers from all over Catalonia this Saturday, 18 September, is linked to the values of the new model of the facility and based on the school curriculum and basic skills of the primary, compulsory secondary and baccalaureate educational system for the 2021-2022 school year.Another of the new resources being incorporated into it is technology, with digital activities, or for accessing face-to-face ones online, and learning through recreational experiences. The Zoo is also expected to adapt to the needs of schools, with the possibility of transfers to schools, as happened over the last few months because of the pandemic.
The plan consists of twenty experiences for all ages, notably including “Animals under threat”, explaining the various causes that have led many species to extinction and having an effect on those originating from humans and the possibility of changing the situation. The issues of the activities are linked above all to local, native and threatened fauna.
Besides incorporating new experiences into the plan, those already worked on in other courses have also be updated. For example, the Invertebrates Workshop will offer from now on an opportunity to observe animals and directly learn about them at the invertebrates’ pavilion.
