Control and input in the Social Rights Commission of February 2025
February’s session by the Social Rights Commission debated and voted on various proposals from municipal groups relating to the Làbora programme, the municipal dental service, the Children’s Proclamation, intensive educational support in nursery schools and advice and information on forced marriages.
Junts per Barcelona called for a solid commitment to guarantee the feasibility of the Làbora programme, given the high degree of employability for people in vulnerable situations and for its significant social return. The proposal was approved with favourable votes from all groups.
The proposal from Barcelona en Comú was to expand the municipal dental service for people in vulnerable situations with a new information and care point, preferably in the district of Sant Martí to ensure dental health for the whole population. The commission approved the proposal with the following votes:
- In favour: Junts×BCN, BComú, ERC.
- Against: PP, Vox.
- Abstention: PSC.
Esquerra Republicana sought to include the proposals and ideas for improvement set out by children, through their participation in the Children’s Agenda and the Children’s Loudspeaker, in the existing government plans and measures by Barcelona City Council, such as the Childhood Plan 2021-2030. The proposal was approved with votes from all groups.
The Partit Popular urged the municipal government to act in municipal nursery schools and boost the support project for infants who require intensive educational support, with measures such as strengthening this support service for infants with mild disabilities and the creation of specialised support classrooms for infants with severe disabilities or multiple disabilities etc. The commission approved the proposal with the following votes.
- In favour: Junts×BCN, PSC, BComú, ERC, PP.
- Abstention: Vox.
The proposal from the Vox municipal group put forward various measures to prevent forced marriages, such as talks in schools about every woman’s right to choose their partner, information about where and when to warn of a forced marriages and information for parents and relatives to explain that this practice is considered human trafficking in Spain, with prison sentences, etc. The proposal was rejected with the following votes:
- In favour: Vox.
- Abstention: PP.
- Against: Junts×BCN, PSC, BComú, ERC.
