Barcelona Investment Fund: €30M to drive entrepreneurship in strategic sectors
The blue economy, creative industries, health and biotechnology and Deep Tech are among the sectors that will get a new boost through the creation of the new capital risk fund, the Barcelona Investment Fund. With 30 million euros available, the fund will focus on strategic sectors for the city that help generate quality jobs and open up new horizons in areas such as the care economy and the impact economy.
The new vehicle will also allow for investment in funds that prioritise social and environmental impact, and to attract growth funds that focus on backing companies in a stage of significant development. Entering into this type of fund will have a key part in helping the city to retain companies with a high growth potential.
This will be the third type of this fund in the city. It comes in addition to the Fons Accelera, launched in 2020 with 10 million euros to reactivate private investment in the city after the paralysis for Covid; and the Fons Deep Tech, created in 2023 with a further 10 million euros. Between them, the two funds have invested in 107 start-ups, which provide nearly 4,000 jobs for the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Out of the 10 million euros available from the Barcelona Accelera fund, 7.9 million euros has so far been invested, providing capital for 65 companies. In addition, 1.3 million euros has been invested through the Deep Tech fund, backing 42 companies focused on providing tech solutions based on scientific discoveries and disruptive innovation to respond to the main challenges for today’s society.
