Dorota Gawęda and Eglė Kulbokaitė have been working together since 2013, their projects moving between performance, installations, sculpture, video and painting, all rooted in feminist theory and fiction. The winning project is called Gusla, which means ‘witchcraft’ in Polish and is derived from rural folklore.

Based in Basel (Switzerland), the duo will take part in at artistic residency between the  European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN), in Geneva, and Hangar, in Barcelona.

In addition, three special mentions were given to individuals and institutions that will be able to take part in the programme ‘Arts at CERN’ and stay for a brief period at the laboratory to carry out research on ideas that can support their projects: the Indonesian filmmaker Riar Rizaldi, the New Zealand-based collective The Observatory Project and the Barcelona-based Columbian María Paz.

The ‘Arts at CERN’ programme and Barcelona City Council, as part of the Barcelona Science Plan, have been working together since 2019 to foster dialogue between art and science at a high level.
