Close to nine thousand local residents enjoy Sala Barcelona concerts
Montjuïc Castle’s Parade Ground has been playing host to Sala Barcelona concerts since 2 July (finishing on 30 August), offering a programme reflecting the nature and diversity of the city’s concert halls. 56 bands and 35 DJs have performed there. Some nine thousand people have been able to enjoy 36 concerts on the summer programme, all headed by artists, bands and DJs who usually play at — and pack — the city’s concert halls.
Thanks to its affordable offers, with tickets costing between 12 and 15 euros, the initiative has ensured accessibility for local residents while the venue has met all the health and safety measures.
Close to sixty thousand euros raised for concert halls
Besides reactivating the city’s music scene, the Sala Barcelona cycle has helped to raise money for small-capacity venues (seating for under 250 peoples) that are part of the Catalan Association of Concert Halls (ASACC), in the face of the risk of their closure from the COVID-19 crisis. Close to sixty thousand euros have been raised.
The results of cooperation
The Sala Barcelona project was created from a collaboration between ASACC and the Barcelona Institute of Culture (ICUB) to take on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the cultural sector and, more specifically, the city’s small concert halls.
It established the bases of the coordination and collaboration between the Authorities and private organisations from the world of music to strengthen the sector’s continuity.
More concerts for seeing off the summer
Music performances will continue at Montjuïc Castle’s parade ground, from 27 to 30 August, to round off the Sala Barcelona Festival. You’ve still time to purchase tickets from the salabarcelona.cat website.
