Peace concert to raise money for the victims of the war in Ukraine
Artists performing out of solidarity include Mireia Barrera, Salvador Brotons, Jordi Savall, the musicians of the OBC and the orchestra and choir from El Liceu. The concert is being held at L’Auditori on Wednesday 30 March, at 8 pm, with the money raised to go to the Catalan Red Cross project ‘Ukraine Needs Us’.Organised by the Fundació Victoria de los Ángeles, Barcelona City Council and the Government of Catalonia, the city’s main music institutions are collaborating by selflessly offering their facilities and their technical and human teams, and by bearing the costs of the event.
Mireia Barrera, Salvador Brotons and Jordi Savall are just some of the artists being directed by the Orquestra i Cor per la Pau, an orchestra and choir created especially for the occasion and made up of volunteer musicians and singers from different institutions in Barcelona: the Orquestra Simfònica i el Cor del Gran Teatre del Liceu, the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya (OBC), Franz Schubert Filharmonia, the Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès, the Fundació Victoria de los Ángeles, the Escolania de Montserrat, the Fundació Pau Casals, the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC), the Conservatori del Liceu, the Coral Càrmina and the Quartet Casals. Other singers taking part out of solidarity include Joyce DiDonato, Airam Hernández, Marina Pinchuk and Mattia Olivieri.
As a way of emphasising the role of music as a universal element for cohesion, understanding and harmony between peoples, the programme for the Concert per la Pau (Peace Concert) includes various compositions such as Prayer for Ukraine, by Valentin Silvestrov, The Great Gate at Kiev, from Modest Mussorgski’s Pictures at an Exhibition, the traditional Catalan song El rossinyol and the popular piece El cant dels ocells.
Admission prices range from 15 to 25 euros. An account number has also been set up for voluntary contributions to benefit the mission launched by the Red Cross in Ukraine.
