Christmas to be even lighter and brighter in 2021!
As an exceptional measure due to the economic situation, this is the second year running that subsidies are being offered to cover up to 75% of the cost of Christmas lighting around shopping hubs. More city streets will also be lit up in the city centre, with new designs introduced.Municipal investment in the Christmas lights is set to increase by 43.8%, rising from 1,622,000 euros in 2020 to 2,057,866 this year. The City Council and other relevant organisations note that the Christmas lighting is a key tool in the recovery of the city’s network of commerce during the festive season.
Ronda de Sant Pere will get Christmas lights for the first time, joining other streets which have started featuring Christmas lighting in the last few years: Pl. Catalunya, Via Laieatana, Pl. Urquinaona and C/ Balmes.
Pl. Catalunya, Gran Via and C/ Aragó will also have new lighting models designed by Estudi Toni Arola, while Christmas lights will also be maintained on the 39 municipal market buildings.
