Proposals from municipal groups in the full council meeting of 29 November 2024
November’s full council meeting approved two proposals: one from BComú, to increase the budget for purchasing housing using the right to first refusal, and one from the ERC, to promote renovation and urban regeneration policies. The session rejected the proposals from Junts-Trias×BCN, the PP and Vox, and two institutional declarations were read out.Junts per Catalunya-Trias per Barcelona called for a guarantee that all schools receive the resources they need, with measures such as the creation of an additional line of grants to transform playgrounds at state-subsidised private schools, and collaboration with these and publicly operated schools with joint action plans. The proposal was rejected, with Junts-Trias×BCN and the PP voting in favour, while the PSC, BComú, the ERC and Vox voted against it.
Barcelona en Comú called for an increase in the budget for purchasing housing through the right to first refusal, with at least an additional 150 million euros for the 2023-2027 term of office, giving priority to areas under the most pressure from tourism and where there is less municipal land available etc. The meeting approved the proposal with votes from Junts-Trias×BCN, the PSC, BComú and the ERC, while the PP and Vox voted against it.
Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya made a proposal to drive renovation and urban regeneration policies to guarantee decent housing and redress the problems in accessing the public housing stock, particularly in neighbourhoods with the highest vulnerability levels. The proposal was approved, with Junts-Trias×BCN, the PSC, BComú, the ERC and the PP voting in favour, while Vox voted against it.
The Partit Popular called for Christmas to be celebrated in the city as a Christian festival, respecting its traditional symbols and, among other things, installing the traditional nativity scene in Plaça Sant Jaume again. The session rejected the proposal, with Junts-Trias×BCN, the PP and Vox voting in favour, while the PSC, BComú and the ERC voted against it.
The proposal from Vox called for an exceptional measure whereby international aid and cooperation subsidies from the 2025 budget would be used directly for the municipalities affected by the storm in Valencia. The meeting rejected the proposal, with the PP and Vox voting in favour, while Junts-Trias×BCN, the PSC, BComú and the ERC voted against it.
Institutional declarations
Two institutional declarations were read out in the meeting: the first, to demonstrate the commitment to devote all the efforts and resources needed to guarantee women’s right to live free of male violence, with the support of Junts-Trias×BCN, the PSC, BComú, the ERC and the PP.
The second, with the support of Junts-Trias×BCN, the PSC, BComú and the ERC, to reaffirm the commitment to protect women who have suffered or suffer sexist violence from men, prioritising swift access to a safe and stable home.
