The Editorial Planeta was founded by José Manuel Lara Hernández in Barcelona in 1949 and was the embryo for the Grup Planeta. This year the group marked its 75th anniversary, with a structure where its capital is still wholly family owned. With more than 70 publishing brands, the group is present in the Spanish and Latin American publishing markets and publishes over 2,500 titles a year in Spanish, Catalan and Portuguese.

In addition to being a leader in the sphere of publishing, its trajectory and presence in over twenty countries also make it a leader in media and audiovisual training and entertainment. The group organises the prestigious Premi Planeta de Novel·la, an award created in 1952 and recognising talent an innovation in the literary world.
