Twenty children’s play areas to get shade structures in 2025
The government commission has approved the process to manufacture seasonal shade structures to be installed at two children’s play areas in each district. The idea is to adapt the spaces so that children can play during the hottest months. The shade structure consists of a system of metal columns with fabric attached to them, to be set up in the summer and dismantled the rest of the year.
The twenty play areas have been chosen following an analysis to identify those most exposed to solar radiation:
- Ciutat Vella: Plaça de Josep Maria Folch i Torres and Plaça de Sant Miquel.
- Eixample: Jardins de la Indústria and Jardins Interior d’Illa Laura Albéniz.
- Sants-Montjuïc: Jardins de la Mediterrània and Rambla de Badal with Carrer de la Constitució.
- Les Corts: Plaça del Mirall de Pedralbes and Parc de Margarita Rivière Martí.
- Sarrià – Sant Gervasi: Jardins de Moragas and Jardins d’Elvira Farreras Valentí.
- Gràcia: Plaça de Joanic and the Jardins de Maria Baldó.
- Horta-Guinardó: Parc de la Unitat and Plaça de les Pedreres de Can Baró.

- Sant Andreu: Parc d’Antoni Santiburcio and Jardins d’Antònia Pich Santasusanna.
