Carrer Balmes to be revamped as far as General Mitre
The government commission gives initial approval for the street to be reconditioned between Pl. Molina and Rda. General Mitre. The project will create more space for pedestrians and give continuity to the remodelling work completed in the section from Gran Via to Pl. Molina. The work will see pavements widened and more greenery added, the goal being greater connectivity between the neighbourhoods of Sant Gervasi – Galvany and El Farró. Pavements will be widened to 4.35 metres on average, with new trees introduced.
Changes to road surfaces too
The current four traffic lanes in the road will be reduced to three: two in the ascending direction and one descending. There will also be a service lane on the side nearest the Besòs, with loading and unloading spaces, plus parking for motorcycles and for vehicles belonging to people with reduced mobility, bus-stops and waste containers.
Work is due to get under way in the autumn and take 15 months, with a budget of 7 million euros.
