Reinforcement of municipal services on New Year's Eve
The Guardia Urbana will deploy a special operation throughout the city in order to ensure safety, coexistence and rest. Access and crowd capacity controls will be set up on the Avenida de la Reina Maria Cristina, the focal point of the 2025 New Year celebrations, next to measures to prevent sexual violence and conduct alcohol and drug tests. Additional personnel will be assigned to cleaning services, and the metro will be operational all night. The Guardia Urbana, in collaboration with the Mossos d’Esquadra, will ensure the neighbourhood’s rest and monitor illegal activities in public spaces. As part of the Christmas Operation, public venues have been inspected to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
Joint Operation on the Avenida de la Reina Maria Cristina
Barcelona waves goodbye to 2024 and welcomes 2025 with a fireworks display on the Avenida de la Reina Maria Cristina. A joint police operation will be focusing on preventing criminal acts and maintaining public order. The operation will also include community-oriented tasks, citizen assistance as well as the general surveillance of public spaces.
There will be an access device to the central road, between the two Venetian Towers, to prevent potentially dangerous objects from entering. Public access via Avenida de Rius i Taulet and Avenida de Francesc Ferrer i Guàrdia will be forbidden. Drone services will be deployed to support these measures.
Accident Prevention and Measures Against Gender-Based Violence
Once again, safe routes will be set up in nightlife areas and around Avenida de la Reina Maria Cristina. Specific Guardia Urbana patrols will offer this service in order to identify and address behaviour linked to gender-based violence.
To add to that, Barcelona’s police force will also boost road safety with alcohol and drug tests at various locations across the city to prevent accidents.
24-hour Metro
The Metro will operate continuously from 5:00 am on Tuesday, 31 December, until midnight on Wednesday, 1 January. Due to event preparations, some TMB bus routes around Plaça d’Espanya will be diverted or shortened.
To get to Avenida de la Reina Maria Cristina, TMB suggests using the metro as the best means of public transport. Additional staff will be deployed in order to manage passenger flows at nearby stations.
New Year’s Eve cleaning services will be boosted with 81 additional workers and 32 extra vehicles to manage the increased demand.
