The eDreams Barcelona Half Marathon by Brooks 2024 breaks the record for participation with over 28,000 runners
The 34th edition of the eDreams Half Marathon Barcelona by Brooks, which will take place on 11 February, has broken the record for participation, attracting more than 28,000 runners. This figure makes the Barcelona half marathon the 21,097 km race with the highest number of participants in Spain, and the second highest at European level.
Besides this historic figure, this year’s edition also stands out for its high number of international runners, with 40% of 98 nationalities represented, and for the presence of more women than ever before – 9,800 in total, meaning that 35% of participants will be women.
In order to offer a better service to the runners, and to accommodate the high number of participants this year, the starting point for the event has been moved to Passeig Picasso. The finishing line remains in Passeig Pujades.
In the sports section, the eDreams Half Marathon Barcelona by Brooks 2024 will include a line-up of elite top-level runners. In the men’s category, the favourite will be the Kenyan athlete Kibiwott Kandie, who holds the second best time in the world for a half marathon (57:32′). In the women’s category, world marathon champion Ruth Chepngetich, also from Kenya, is the favourite to beat the race record of 1:04:37.
The fact that the eDreams Barcelona Half Marathon by Brooks 2024 has been such a sell-out has translated into a boost for registration for this year’s Zurich Barcelona Marathon, for which over 17,000 race bibs have already been sold. The Marathon organisers hope to match the current record for participation in the race, which stands at 20,385, the number of bibs sold in 2016.
In short, the eDreams Half Marathon Barcelona by Brooks 2024 will be a top-level race, with a record number of participants, a commitment to gender equality and an elite line-up that promises a great experience for all runners.
