The City Police will be activating two new night units in Sants-Montjuïc and Sant Martí as from 1 June. Night policing in these districts was previously carried out in conjunction with other districts. In three years, the number of officers on duty at night has increased by 71.5% compared to 2021.

The new units mean that the City Police will now be operating the following policing units at night:

  • Territorial Night Unit – Ciutat Vella
  • Territorial Night Unit – Eixample
  • Territorial Night Unit – Sants- Montjuïc
  • Territorial Night Unit – Sant Martí
  • Nocturnal Territorial Unit – Les Corts, Sarrià-Sant Gervasi and Gràcia
  • Nocturnal Territorial Unit – Horta-Guinardó, Nou Barris and Sant Andreu

Territorial Night Units belong to a specific district, while Noctural Territorial Units cover more than one district.

The goal is to keep improving the police response to new realities and emerging problems, and to model the organisation of the corps to meet the demands of the city to guarantee and improve coexistence and safety. This way, resources are managed in an efficient and consistent way, in touch with the local area.

Police presence at night has steadily been stepped up since 2021, rising from four operative units at night to six, and from 435 officers on duty to 746, an increase of 71.5%.

Some 72% of officers on duty at night belong to Territorial Units, with the rest coming from centralised units such as the Traffic Division and the Reinforcement Unit for Emergencies and Proximity.
