Heat Plan alert stage activated
The alert phase of the Heat Plan was activated on 23 July. On 30 July, it was upgraded to emergency status due to torrid nights, with night-time temperatures expected to exceed 28 degrees Celsius. However, as of Monday 9 August, the alert phase has been reinstated for both extreme daytime and night-time heat, with night-time temperatures of 26 degrees. The Barcelona Urgent Care and Social Emergency Centre (CUESB), in coordination with the Municipal Civil Protection Service and the Red Cross, continues to operate a preventive street unit to distribute information, hats and water bottles to those at risk.
During the alert phase, the CUESB will be providing a waiting room with comfortable temperatures and drinking water. If necessary, more space will be made available and home visits will be conducted to assess the risks and take appropriate action.
At the same time, if homeless people at risk are identified, the emergency services will be notified on 061 or 112 and, if necessary, the person will be accompanied to an air-conditioned shelter or one of the city’s climate shelters.
Hours for carrying out works will also be extended to avoid the hottest times in the middle of the day, allowing activity to start an hour earlier at 7 am and end an hour later at 9 pm. However, the use of machinery and noisy work must still take place during the usual hours, between 8 am and 8 pm.
These measures are part of the city’s Heat Plan, which entered its preventive phase on 15 June and will remain active until 15 September. In case of extreme heat, please follow these recommendations.
